Who wouldn’t have been happy with basically a remake of BF1942 with the latest graphics tech?

With vehicle and infantry mechanics similar to BF3. That is, you can regenerate health (slowly compared to medkits/repairs) and vehicles have infinite ammo, but they spawn on the map and are destructible/stealable and they can get disabled and burn down to nothing if not repaired.

And yes, long walks/swims back to base to get a new one will be required.

Also, weapons fire would be built more to BF3 standards. (Assault/Battle/Semi-auto/bolt-action non-sniper) Rifles would be accurate and can dang near reach anywhere but snipers have the best accuracy overall but snipers wouldn't have perfect laser beams either (a nod to BF2). Machine guns can quickly become inaccurate in sustained fire off the bipod and stay accurate on it but like BF3 you manually need to deploy the bipod first to use it. (If you have it equipped.) They're usable in close quarters off the bipod in short bursts but are clumsy compared to rifles and SMG's. (Quick spread gain.) SMG's have very little recoil and good hipfire but deal low damage usually, especially at distance making them aggressive close quarters weapons, also their accuracy at distance wouldn't be very good, probably the worst outside of shotguns. Shotguns would be high damage up close and spread out buckshot can pepper multiple opponents at a distance but its efficacy fades with distance. (It may or may not be one hit kill, I'm leaning against one hit kill shotguns.)

Also, all weapons/gadgets are faction locked. No Americans with MP40's or Japanese with M1 Garands or Soviets with Carcanos or BS like that.

Unless you kill a guy and steal his shit.

And of course, planejacking... one of the best parts of '42.

Reviews are NOT good. Some severe balancing issues and it's buggy as hell. I hear they're heavily discounting it already. Which is a very poor sign indeed.

I'm still vaguely interested in it but probs won't bother. Which is a shame, I should have been hyped for a return to WWII. But for some reason every gameplay vid has left me kinda meh.

Is where I am at the mo. I was totally up for some squad shoot em up mayhem. How can they fuck it up? It should be pretty easy, the formula is a classic, just throw another one out ffs!

Exactly! If you want your favorite toy at all times, find a guy who has it and KILL HIS ASS FOR IT!

It never even broke Top 10 Most Played games on Xbox. It's been right next to Fallout 76, another dumpster fire in itself.

Hell, it's incredibly unpopular on Twitch, always beaten by bloody Farming Simulator in both uploads and views.

Maybe they can sell the rights to someone who will fix it and make it awesome with runways and normal looking soldiers and shit.

Not only do they need runways/carriers and actual looking like soldiers soldiers instead of Fartnite convention attendees, they need a number of other things.

- First shot accuracy of weapons, not every shot accuracy of weapons. BF3 had it about right minus the idiotic recoil multiplier that made most weapons really jumpy. Weapons fire would be accurate in short bursts and single shots but prolonged fire would become unreliable and inaccurate, especially at long range.

- Recoil as a mechanic if present must be unique in pattern per weapon. No clones or close enough (M16/M416/M4A1 I'm looking at you...) weapons.

- Damage by caliber eliminated. Not every gun should do (or in reality does) the same damage and damage curves. Weapons should be more geared along a line of subtle roles for example a G3 should more marksman rifle than bullet hose.

- Headshots are always fatal excepting maybe buckshot at long range. Headshot hitboxes are smaller as a result. You will be told with some kind of anti-frustration message (perhaps humorous?) that you were headshotted if killed by one.

- Vehicles existent at all times on the map. No spawn in mid-air or spawn from a menu. If that tank or plane or heli or whatever is sitting empty when spawned, it's free real estate.

- Vehicles also have BF3 ammo mechanics. Continuous fire or unlimited magazines with reload.

- Vehicles/Soldiers can regenerate health fully. This would be slower than medkits or repairs however. Vehicles if damaged below a certain threshold become Disabled and will burn away to nothing if not repaired.

- Vehicles would be geared towards certain roles. For example, tanks are anti-vehicle anti-fortification weapons that are weak to aircraft or anti-tank infantry. (Though it'd kill AT infantry individually quite quick.) Planes for example would kill other planes if Fighter type or attack vehicles and emplacements, killing infantry with any plane will be quite difficult as infantry are small and hard to hit especially from long ranges.

- Very few mobile spawn points. Pretty much only IFV-type ground vehicles such as the AMTRAC, LAV-25 or equivalent, transport helicopters/planes or maybe landing craft type boats. No squad spawns, no spawn beacons, no spawning on every kind of vehicle.

- Distances between flags increased. Flags offer one of the few means of spawning elsewhere other than home base. Defend them. Flags would offer ammo crates to resupply at (a la BF1942) for the team holding the flag. Flags can spawn additional vehicles from jeeps to tanks to planes and more depending on context of the flag. Flags cannot be spawned on while being contested. OPTIONAL IMPROVEMENT: If you capture a flag and hold there for additional time, you can then Fortify the flag doubling its burn time to capture for the enemy and it will spawn additional emplacements, sandbag/barbed wire walls and whatnot blocking entry and for a short time retain its ability to spawn soldiers if contested. (Until the Fortify state timer has elapsed while being captured).

- Home base can be captured for a quick end to the round if all other flags are taken by the opposing faction. DEFEND YOUR BASE!

- Territory control modes (Conquest, Operations, etc.) victory conditions are terrain control only. No more tickets or TDM style mechanics. You want to win? Capture all the flags including the enemy's base.

- Flag defense kills become higher scoring the more flags you control. Say we have a map with at least 3 flags. A single flag controlled is a bonus of an extra kill in terms of points. Two flags controlled means a bonus of each kill is worth as much as a Flag Capture bonus. At least three flags means the Flag Defense bonus per kill is worth MORE than a Flag Capture bonus (to discourage zerg merry-go-rounds).

Seems the critics reviews say it's pretty good but the players are hating it.

Which says a lot about the integrity of the “professional” reviewers.

Me too... if it can’t stay true to its roots, the franchise deserves to die in a horrible fire.
