Sound like this is your thing Mullet. I'm waiting for a joystick to arrive so I can master the whirlybirds.

I'm officially getting back into ArmA (3) for summer.

I squeezed every last ounce of Gameplay out of Operation Flashpoint, and put a fair bit of time into the first ArmA... Automatically bought Arma 3 when it came out, but have barely touched it...

I reckon Arma 3 could be a contender for a game we all might converge on...

:-?

So how many Kajigabytes does Arma 3 take up? Think I need to get a bigger hard drive.

Depends on the mods you download. Some of the good ones can run a gig or more. The DLC bundles are a decent deal too. You get some pretty useful content from them. If you're on a pvp server I highly recommend the marksmen dlc minimum as it gives you a full ghille and face mask which are thermally shielded (you don't show up on thermals).

Looks proper special actually.

Quite a few credible alternatives to ArmA on the market these days. Can only be good for the gamer.

I'm up for plenty of single player ArmA, is there a trusted bunch?

I've still got a ways to go on the stock ones however, currently gotta find the mortar spotters in the trees with the drone.

Not a fan of the drone...

I got past the spot-the-mortar teams stage, but can't say I enjoyed it.

Arma is all about getting your controls set-up properly, and having them be second nature. The drone piloting thing didn't feel intuitive, but probably just because I haven't got the right control set-up.

Or 'cos I was trying to fly it like it was a 3 ton helicopter, rather than a 30kg UAV...

:-?

The smart play with the drone is to open up the UAV terminal, left-click where you want the drone to go then right click to set the altitude and action (loiter or hold) then take the turret controls to lase/spot targets. Use ctrl-t to stabilize/lock targets and the N key to switch to thermal.

^^^Ooooh! Good info. I hadn't toyed with it too much but found myself getting lost with it. Sure, i'm searching the treeline, but fucked if I know where. I did spot some dude in the trees, but wasn't sure if they were mine or not and didnt know what to do anyhow! So I laser spot them, kewl.

Really enjoyed the patrol through the valley with pockets of bad guys to take out. I'll have to work on my aiming, so many times i'm sure i've got them and no joy.

Troo dat. I've barely adjusted mine but have been getting on ok with infantry, which so far for me is clocking the bad guys, trying to get into a position with both cover and good visibility, thinking i'm going to supress the whole squad and pick them off, seeing them all disappear from view and hope they pop up again in my arc......

Download the A3 launcher. It will tell you if you need additional mods to join a server and download/install them for you. It's a real sanity saver.

I decided to buy IL:2 Battle of Kuban because it has exactly what I want (almost) and realistic prop planes which is all that really matters to me.

So Leady, what's all recommended for A3? Last I played the sniper kit was just releasing.

Been kinda burning to get back into FPS, and the sim flying. Gotta get my TIR+HOTAS setup again.

I've been hooked on the Exile mod these days. I've picked up all the DLC when they had sales recently on the bundles (about $30 all in for the marksmen, tanks, jets, helis, karts and Apex). Exile is like a mix of DayZ and PubG although the server I'm on is PVE only (you take on missions against the AI). You can build some pretty extensive bases with the mod and the AI can put up a decent battle. If you want to find me I'm on the Fat Guys Gaming server as Leadmagnet (search for "Fat Tanoa" in the A3 launcher. That will let you download all the required mods.
