Looks candy but haven't we all been through this already? Not exactly very innovative.

Tapping into the Nostalgia Market I guess...

Very lucrative market that. Lots of men in their 40's trying to relive their youth... Will buy any old shit.

(Can I pre-order Doom 4?)

:-??

Doom is not Doom unless it has beasties that magically appear and attack you from behind without warning.

Well now we know what Battlefield multiplayer was inspired from.

As far as I know there was no feature in BF to allow you to materialise behind someone and blast them in the head with fireballs.

Although BF:Doom would be an interesting combination...

Doom 3 and Quake 4 were shit. They captured none of the magic of Doom.

This looks like Doom 3 with slightly fancier graphics.

Doom 3, though very different gameplay wise than Doom, was not shit. It retained armor and health pickups, carry all weapons, the monsters, and spawning monsters upon crossing certain thresholds or picking up certain weapons and items. The differences between the old and new were the larger story, smaller spaces, and reduced enemy count in any given encounter. Doom 3 was a slower paced horror FPS with a story. Half Life 2 and Painkiller were also released in 2004 and I don't know which one of those games people had imagined Doom 3 would be more akin to.

Doom 2016 / Doom 4, looks promising as a modern version of the original. If you think it looks like Doom 3 with newer graphics, you must be comparing pics only and not video. It is a lot faster paced, has more open space, and throws more enemies at you. The human enemies look to be dumb AI wise, so I wonder if those parts of the game will drag. I also wonder about the story and if there are any non-enemy NPCs, since what they have shown is just run and gun.

Yeah, describing Doom 3 as a horror survival FPS is about right. Nothing like Doom. It bored me. Once I got past the visuals it bored me shitless. The constantly spawning monsters always annoyed me as well. In Doom they were an occasional trap. In Doom 3 they were standard fare.

Looks like they're sticking with the teleporting monsters in Doom 4. Which is bad. I watched more of the vid and granted, the hell section looks more like Doom of old. No FPS since has quite reproduced the joy of Doom - That dance you did in a room full of imps, armed only with a shotgun. Bobbing and weaving among a hail of fireballs despatching imp after imp, shell by shell. It was superb. Doom 3 captured none of that joy. But then few games have. The only one that came close was Serious Sam but IMO that was also marred by constantly teleporting enemies. Walk into a room. It's empty. Take another step, it's chock full of enemies. Over and over and over again. Just gimme a room full of baddies. Teleporting them in all the time is just annoying.

Anyone played yet?
What kinda specs does it need?

Agree with above in that its not clever or revolutionary, but it looks and sounds great and those cheesy little surprises make me frigging jump time and time again.

So a bit like Call Of Duty for me, I don't rate it much, but its a great blast for a week.

Fuck Doom 4!!!

Everything that made Doom of the past great was the campaign. This new game will be all about the PvP.

I played the beta and was completely unimpressed.

Consensus is, if you enjoyed the recent Wolfenstein games, you'll enjoy this.

I loved RTCW but never bothered with anything since. Was actually thinking of trying NWO or whatever it's called.

Wolfenstein New World Order was great. Old Blood was less so.

As for Doom, I have played the first level and like it. It is fast paced and leans towards chaotic, as the best way to regain health is to do melee finishers (while being attacked by other enemies). Verticality is also important as enemies are at different levels and you need to mantle or drop to clean them out. I've read that the early part of the game is nothing compared to the chaos of the late game. I am not interested in or have an opinion on multiplayer.

I have a 980Ti and at 1080p I have every setting maxed out.

most of the reviews that I've read have said that the games singleplayer has been really good.

MP is minimalist from what ive seen which is how the original MP was.

being only 10 hours of game play I'm going to wait till the price comes way down. Already played all the PvP on this game that I needed.

You think this is Street Fighter?

Go to 9:00 in the gameplay video in the first post.

I'm thinking with just a ten hour story, might just rent it from Redbox for $2 and give it a play through some weekend.

I'm a few hours into the single player campaign, it's fantastic so far, the reviews are spot on. Haven't tried multiplayer. The creepy creepies DO seem to appear behind you, it's absolutely frenetic, at times murderous chaos. I'm playing on a Steam Controller on the couch...aim isn't the greatest without mouse precision and I die more than I should, but I look at it as getting more mileage out of the campaign.

Bought this for a few quid and played it last night. Loving the unapologetic old school nature of it. No zoom aiming, no reloading, monsters inexplicably pop out ammo and health when they die. Maps only get marginally more sophisticated than go from A to B. Just a lot of frenetic shooting action.

It won't have a long shelf life, but it'll be fun while it lasts.
