Have noticed that English-language mainstream media is describing the actions of Turkey re: Syria/Kurds as a "cross-border assault".

What's the difference between a "cross-border assault", and an "invasion"?

:-?

Also they're establishing a "safe zone" in Syria, which apparently isn't the same as an "occupation" of part of Syria.

:-?

I hear about 100,000 people have left their homes, presumably to attend said music festivals.

Syria are now fighting back against the Turks, so I guess this is now a 'proper' war.

Going well then.

I'm trying to remember how the NATO Constitution works...

If Syria starts fighting Turkey, doesn't that mean the rest of NATO has to join in on Turkey's side?

:-??

Wouldn't Syria have to be the aggressor? Also I think Turkey has to ask NATO for help.

And North Korea too.

Shit, if everyone joined NATO then nobody would attack anyone because if they did they'd be counter-attacked by everyone - including themselves.

Genius.

Murrican troops return to Syria to nobly defend oil

Quote:
U.S. military forces have returned to eastern Syria weeks after President Trump ordered the complete withdrawal of American troops from the area.

“A small number of U.S. troops will remain in the area where they have the oil,” President Trump said on Oct. 23. “We’re going to be protecting it, and we’ll be deciding what we’re going to do with it in the future.”

Protecting the oil could mean U.S. forces defending the oil not just from the 15,000 estimated ISIS fighters remains in Syria and Iraq, but from Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s troops, Russian and Iranian-backed forces as well.
