HW hit a deer on the way back from picking me up at the train station tonight.

It jumped out from the left verge and she caught it full on with the (now smashed) headlight.

I watched the deer barrel roll about six times up the road, then try to get up...

I got out the car, walked up to it...

Calmed it down so that it was sitting still. Checked for signs of blood, particularly around the ears. There was none. Legs were all working fine too...

But it had a hell of a concussion.

I helped it up, and it ran off unsteadily, bounced off a stationary Land Rover, then wobbled off to the Golf Course.

We resumed our journey home.

Would you have handled the situation sny differently Slacks?

:-?

I...don't think so? I'm not scared of deers!

I hit a badger once, so hard it took off part of my bumper. I stopped, checked it was dead and moved it off the road. Surprisingly hefty.

If you were a real man you would have skinned it (you HAVE skinned an animal before?). Made a hat and cooked it on the bbq.

In Colorado if you hit a deer (or just as often, the deer hits YOU) you end up with one of three outcomes.

1) The deer goes SPLAT. Literally, they fly into pieces and make a hell of a mess.

2) The deer doesn't go splat but lies flumped over your hood or on the side of the road.

3) The deer gets up and runs off without any meaningful damage inflicted to it.

In all three cases, you're going to end up with a hefty repair bill either way and/or the insurance possibly totaling your car.

Two chicks hit an elk on the way to my party in Colorado
Trashed their Bronco II
We went back and got it and skinned it
It was delicious

I've eaten wood pigeon and squirrel. Shot not run over though.

Eating at any east side Vancouver Chinese dive has its risks...

I'm thinking of hunting(poaching) again for food. Why not.. It's free food and maybe I can make a hat.

There are people who scoop up roadkill and pick wild berries and live that way. There was someone on Come Done With Me who served such a dish.

If I had the land and time I'd quite like to have a stab at growing vegetables and keep chickens for eggs.

Don't need much land for either. Not for self-sufficiency purposes anyways.

You’re forgetting... Engerlund. Only the royals have yards.

You just need a box and a window for things like peppers, tomatoes and a number of other things.

If Slacks has no windows, then we Americans and Canadians need to organize a humanitarian mission to eradicate the royalist scum who hold all the land. We shall call it Operation: Peace Land And Bread Eh.

I used to grow veggies before we started fucking off to Japan in the summers. Fucking loved it. Tried to do it the first year we went back and came back to tomatoes spread out all over my backyard and some of my herbs had turned into fucking trees. Fucking loved it when I was growing veggies. Great for kids to see too.
