Like the health insurance you get in the states except you get to prepay through higher taxes on gas and other consumables... and income...

I'm getting closer to pulling the trigger next week. Hyundai just released the price for the EV Kona and it is a little bit cheaper than the Chevy Bolt. But I don't think they will be able to get one in time before my lease is up next week. I told the dealer I'd be willing to wait and even rent a car for a month or two if they could guarantee me one..........but the dealer has no idea when they are going to get them and can't take pre-orders.

So I will likely turn my Hyundai in next week and owe them about $1,500 between the mile overage and $500 drop off fee.

Now I am dicking around with electricians to see what it will take to upgrade my existing 240 volt 30 amp outlet in my garage. I need 32 amps so I can do the max charging and get 238 miles of charge in about 8 hours. Otherwise I am stuck with the stock charger that can do 240 at 12 amps and get me about 90 miles charged overnight. That will be totally fine for my daily commute in San Diego (50 miles roundtrip), but if I need to go up to LA or Palm Springs for work, I would like to be able to get a full charge at my house overnight so I don't have to stop and rely on using a public pay charger.

My power panel is on the opposite side of the house, so they would have to run a new cable about 50' to my garage..........let alone buying a $500 charging station like this. So I figure that is another $1,200 on top of the $1,500 I will owe Hyundai.

So price is starting to climb and eat into the saving I expected.

Seriously though.

Just use the same cable your oven has and wire it into the oven main.

The Prius (and most hybrids) don't have the horsepower or the torque.

I'm only considering getting an EV for the performance.

As if you ever do things like go off-road, climb mountain roads, or haul heavy loads. :-@

Those are the things where performance pays off. Commute in San Diego? Please. You'll be stopped half the time in traffic and the other half you won't ever be able to take advantage of the performance.

A simple lightweight gas saver of a car or an EV would do you there. But demanding sports car or work truck type capabilities? Just a money waste.

Pretty sure my Rav4 hybrid out performs the regular one...I'm positive it's faster at the 0-60

Huh?

I absolutely do need torque and horsepower on my freeway commute. About 20 miles of my 50 mile round-trip commute is heavy traffic (which EV's love because of the power regeneration) and the rest of my commute is full speed.

Plus, I live in a very hilly neighborhood and EV's are a blast bombing up and down hills.

$10 says Slacks has never driven on a busy North American freeway. Engerlund it ain’t.

You don't need torque to cruise on a freeway, particularly with Murrica's pussy low top speed.

Hills are a different story.
