Should probably sticky this thread, since it looks like Trump, KSM and Netanyahu have decided to get the ball rolling now:

Iran military parade attacked by gunmen in Ahvaz

Quote:
Gunmen have opened fire on an Iranian military parade in the south-western city of Ahvaz, killing at least 24 people, including civilians, and injuring more than 50, state media say.

The attackers shot from a park near the parade and were wearing military uniforms, reports say.

An anti-government Arab group, Ahvaz National Resistance, and Islamic State (IS) have both claimed the attack.

The foreign minister has blamed "terrorists paid by a foreign regime".

Javad Zarif added that "Iran holds regional terror sponsors and their US masters accountable".

Let's see how things go.

Time for a bit of regime changing? It's been a while. Miss those days

I'm under the impression the (younger) Iranians are up for changing regime themselves.

A Persian spring if you will. What could go wrong?

It would happen eventually if left to its own devices.

It already happened....in 2009. It was quelled by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. Obama at the time didn't do a thing beyond token words.

Clearly a responsible President would have ordered a bombing and invasion at the first sign of dissent.

Needed moar young'uns. Religious leaders are on borrowed time in Iran as the demographics change and becomes less illiberal.

If America was trustworthy perhaps it's support would be welcome, but it isn't, certainly not these days.

Probably along the lines of “Topple that brutal regime and the U.S. will be welcomed as liberators and Iran will become an economic powerhouse and Murrica’s best friend.”

Lots of things could have been done short of military action.

For starters, Obama (and the "Rest of the WorldTM" should not have spent the immediate years following the brutal 2009 crackdown trying to legitimize the nutter Islamic theocracy with the fucked up "Iran Nuclear Deal".

While Obama and the EU were kissing up to the Mullahs, Iran grew bolder and was fighting expansionist wars inflicting absolute misery and massive human suffering in Syria and Iraq. Not to mention funding Hamas and keeping the Palestinians in misery.

:-?

Added: Didn't the US recently remove exemptions for Iran's oil embargo? It's almost as if they want everyone getting their oil from elsewhere should something interrupt Iranian oil supplies.

You just know Israel and probably the Saudis will be onboard with this shit too.

Liverpool pulled back a three nil deficit against the best players in the World in the penultimate stage of the greatest competition in the World.

And you resurrect this?

Ignorant cunt.

The U.S. Government is *REALLY* getting nervous about the World deciding not to trade oil in U.S. Dollars anymore.

*REALLY* nervous.

If only that were the case here.

My understanding of this is Iran is making grumblings and we simply sent the carrier group to the region as gunboat diplomacy to dissuade anything rash.

Most likely outcome is both sides might contribute to global warming via a lot of hot air being said but nothing substantive will otherwise happen.

Well, to slightly tweak your understanding:

Iran signed the JCPOA with all major Power-Players on the Planet, including the United States.

Then your President unilaterally withdrew from that Treaty.

But everyone else, including the Iranians, stuck with it.

Then just recently, your President ordered one of his fleets to move closer to Iran.

And now the Iranians are saying that they don't really see why they should stick with their commitments to a treaty that the U.S. has unilaterally abrogated.

But the U.S. *MUST* prevent Iran from selling its oil to Russia and China in any currency other than the U.S. Dollar.

There: that a better fit..?

:D

My Baha'i next door neighbor that fled the Islamic nut-cases when the Ayatollah took over prefers to call it Persia.
