US diplomat's wife leaves UK after becoming suspect in fatal road crash | UK news | The Guardian
The wife of a US diplomat has left the UK after becoming a suspect in an investigation into the death of a motorcyclist involved in a fatal road collision, police said.
Harry Dunn, 19, died after his motorbike and a car collided near RAF Croughton in Northamptonshire on 27 August.
Northamptonshire police said a 42-year-old American woman who was being treated as a suspect in their investigation had left the UK.
The foreign secretary, Dominic Raab, said he had called the US ambassador to “express the UK’s disappointment that she had left the country.

And still the Murricans driving in and out that base are driving on the wrong side of the road.

Anyone ever driven abroad and had to do so on the other side of the road to what they're used to? Tricky isn't it? No. No it isn't.

First time driving in Japan last year. Not really tricky but every time I went to change lanes I would put on the windshield wiper. I also cut things close on the left side of the car. Took me about 15 minutes to adjust and I was fine. The trickiest parts stemmed from having the steering wheel on the other side of the car...if I had been driving my car and just needed to switch which side of the road I was driving on ... that would be piss easy.

I've never driven anything but right side of the road. I drive alot and think I am pretty good, but would be really really nervous switching.

Tesla Semi solves this problem for truckers.

My friend got pulled over by a cop in Murrica for driving erratically. We'd been driving for hours eating junk and he was suffering epic constipation, and the squirming translated into swervy driving. Cop let us off 'cos we were British :-bd

Trickier to look past anything in front if you want to overtake, unless there's some cameras or other clever tech it's got?

Apparently it is super easy to drive with wide visibility loaded with tons of technology.

I think this thing is going to be a bigger disrupter than their cars since the payback is about 2 years with the decreased maintenance requirements.

Still curious where we're gonna get all the rare metals from to mass produce there batteries. Let alone the power generation required to charge these things up.

Does about 220 highway...factor in the cold you'll get much less. Put 4 people in it, in the cold, on the highway...Still in the f-that category. I'm sure they're fun as fuck...but na. Soon though.

I think it would be closer to 280-300 miles in the worst conditions.

That's just "range anxiety" fuckin with yo head! Who drives 300 miles a day other than the occasional family road vacation? If you want to road trip, the Tesla charger networks which are everywhere can fill it up in about 20 minutes.

My Bolt only has 238 miles and I drive at least 50 miles a day 5-6 days a week mostly freeway and lots of hills. I only need to charge it at home a couple times a week.

EV drivers know that range is a slippery metric. It depends on temperature, speed, terrain, and about a dozen other factors. In a highway test of a Model S Long Range — the car with an EPA range of 373 miles — at a steady 75 mph, Car and Driver found its range was actually 222 miles at that speed, which was just slightly more than a Porsche Taycan Turbo S driving under the same conditions. So, range estimates have to be taken as guidelines, not hard and fast promises.

^ That's from Mullet's article...Cold weather and 4 people and it will struggle. Not really range anxiety. Just Tesla's are still about 30-50K over a Rav4 prime. That lets me drive it's electric engine for free 90% of the time and doesn't mean juggling cars. We've got family we visit somewhat regularly that would be pushing that range doing a return trip. I'm open to the Tesla...just doesn't make sense right now. Hopefully my little shit box Hyundai will last another few years and I'll replace it with an EV...

That Car and Driver report is getting alot of criticism since they didn't run the entire battery down. Also, few people drive 100% freeway at full speed. The regen in traffic and surface roads adds alot to the range.

How much is the Rav4 in Canada? The base Model3 is under $40K with no incentives in the US.

You can just make these metals if you have a metal maker.

Tesla bought some mines in Nevada and wants to source all of their Cobalt in North America instead of Congo. They are teasing some hints before their battery investor call next month on some new breakthroughs that will limit the need for rare earth metals.

Power won't be a problem since we have plenty of natural gas, solar, hydro and nuclear to power our grid. We can burn more natural gas to create electricity to replace burning dirtier gasoline.

Base Model 3 is about 55K but there are Federal incentives so you can get it for 50. Range is only 440km (273miles) I would imagine the Prime will start around low 40's. If it's really close I would consider the Tesla. But a plug in hybrid would save probably 80% of my fuel cost and have an engine ready when needed. Best of both worlds...During snow storms I've spent 2-3 hours commuting home from work...happens at least once a year.
